When the flood plains and the <st1:place><st1:placename>Amazon</st1:placename> <st1:placetype>River Basin</st1:placetype></st1:place> flood during the rainy season the <st1:place>Amazon River</st1:place> can be up to 40km/24.8 mi wide.
